Papillon Patient Evening a great success

By | News & Events, Uncategorised

On 26th April, Dr Alexandra Stewart, Chair of the BRIGHT charity gave new and old patients an update on the results of the Papillon treatment available at St Luke’s Cancer Centre. The evening was hosted by the BRIGHT Charity who helped part fund the machine and bring the revolutionary treatment to the Royal Surrey Hospital in Guildford. The evening was a chance for patients to meet other patients and to hear an update on the treatment and the plans for the future. Mr Prebble who was the first patient treated with this new machine scooped up the raffle prize – it wasn’t a fix! We were extremely lucky also to have been joined by Sue Davies who runs the PAPS Support group and her son Mark Davies, who was the youngest patient to be treated using this machine at the age of 31. If you have received Papillon treatment and would be willing to share your story to help others please get in touch with Olivia Abel on olivia@bright-research.co.uk

Braving the cold for BRIDGE!

By | News & Events

Last Friday over 60 loyal supporters of BRIGHT braved the cold icy conditions to come along to BRIGHT’s Annual Bridge fundraising which was  kindly hosted by  Clandon Regis Golf Club.

After a delicious buffet lunch, the bridge players enjoyed a great afternoon of cards and helped to raise over £800 for the charity – a fantastic sum.

The support from the players and the club was amazing and the money raised will go towards funding vital research and new treatment options for GI cancer patients.

As the event was such a success, we have already planned to hold our next bridge event at the same venue on Friday 12 January 2018 (more details nearer the time). If you are interested to take part please contact zoe_parkin@hotmail.com to reserve a table.

BRIGHT’s first Charity Football Match raises over £1500!

BRIGHT's Charity Football Match

On Saturday 5th November BRIGHT hosted it’s first ever Charty football Match at Surrey Sports Park. Despite the cold 22 players eagerly put on their orange or white t-shirts and began playing like it was for their country! Onlookers could have been forgiven for thinking that the Dutch and England football teams were playing a friendly at Surrey Sports Park last night, so bright were the orange and white shirts gracing the field and so sublime were the touches of the two teams.

It was a fantastic evening which resulted in over £1,500 being raised for the charity.

Celebrating BRIGHT’s 20th Anniversary – Fetcham Park 21st September

BRIGHT's 20th Anniversary at Fetcham Park

Last month we celebrated a milestone in the history of BRIGHT, after 20 years of funding research into better treatment options for GI patients in Surrey and the surrounding areas.

The celebration took place at Fetcham Park kindly donated by Sandra Young, a key supporter of the charity. We were joined by other loyal supporters including Sir Paul Beresford MP, who kindly took time out of his busy schedule to show his support and thank the Charity Trustees for working hard to raise vital funds to ensure better outcomes for local residents in his constituency.

Our Founder Dr Clare Topham took everyone down a trip dowm memory lane to remind everyone why the charity was established.  Clare was followed by Dr Alex Stewart, the current Chair of the Charity who set out our exciting plans for the next chapter in our history.
